The State of Michigan is in the midst of a serious prolonged fiscal crisis which will require consensus and bi-partisan cooperation to resolve, not just in the short term but as the basis of future wellbeing for Michigan citizens.
Featured presentation was Michigan League for Human Services Sharon Parks, Vice President for Policy Analysis, who talked about the State of Michigan Fiscal Crisis - how Michigan's budget imbalance came into being, alternatives to reconcile current reality and projected future economic trends - and the effects of current governmental shortfalls on citizen quality of life.
Michigan is facing a $3 billion shortfall in revenue between this fiscal year and next year. State programs and services have already been reduced by $4 billion since 2001. -
